Itinerary
Few
places in the world have such a splendid variety of natural beauty as the
Annapurna region. It is a rare combination
of long arrays of snow-capped peaks, crystal clear lakes, turbulent rivers
with deep gorges, Tibetan monasteries, hot-springs, and picturesque villages
inhabited by simple and friendly ethnic people.

there is a small trail and a shrine. Then the track climbs to Himalaya hotel
at the camp site.

South Base Camp Visita
On
up the broad grassy path referred to above for about 1 and 1/2 hr. and then
climb on to the lateral moraine and down the other side on to the glacier.
Walking up the bed of the glacier is safe and quite easy and the British
Expedition Base Camp is reached after another 1 and 1/2 hr. Base camp is
at 4,237 m. The trip is best done from the lower camp, carrying only lunch,
and the best views are probably obtained from the crest of the moraine,
which may have been cut by the glacier flowing down from Himal Chuli to
the north.

South Glacier Basin ( 3,858m)
The

a deep cliff to the right. This is the site of Machhapuchhre base camp and
one can either camp here or continue north west, staying above the glacial
moraine.
